live life more deeply
i teach the skills of mindfulness, meditation and compassion as a way toward greater fulfillment and happiness.
so much of our 21st century life is disconnected, distracted and disembodied. my teaching focuses on practices that help people experience for themselves the profound connection between the mind, body, breath and spirit. borrowing lessons from ancient wisdom and current thinking in psychology and neuroscience, we begin right where you are.
i hold the deep belief that what we practice and how we pay attention will be the truth of our life.
how we might work together
i guide individuals in private or in community circles toward a life filled with greater presence, purpose and satisfaction.
“I began meditating many years ago and feel so incredibly grateful to have found Joy. I have meditated in a weekly in-person group that she runs, virtually during the pandemic and also have met with her individually for private meditation sessions. Currently, I am part of a twice-monthly meditation group for psychotherapists that Joy skillfully leads. Joy is a gifted healer with years of training. Her intuitive sense, and self-awareness combined with her warm presence has been such a gift to experience. “
- Alli T, Psy.D.
I first came to Joy’s class because I was interested in establishing a mindfulness and meditation practice…Now, Joy's class anchors my week. Every Tuesday my husband asks "are you going to do Joy tonight?" and I love how true that has become. Almost every week I come away having learned something from Joy — a poem, a story, a tidbit of something to think about, a book to read. I feel blessed to have found Joy and her class. It has enriched my life in ways I can recognize, and I am sure in many ways I can not.”

“Breathing and mindfulness have enriched my life immensely. Joy’s classes and lessons are highly accessible and open a world of deeper understanding, self-love, spirituality and connection to all.

“I joined Joy's Breathing and Meditation class in December 2019. I had done a little of such when opportunities sporadically presented themselves. However, I needed constancy, a place, a time, a schedule where I could "retreat" in order to embrace the present moment. The worrying and multi-tasking could not take over my existence. It is now April 2021, and I am thrilled to be able to say that not to join with Joy in Breathing and Meditation never enters my mind. This is self care, and I am proud of myself for the decision I made to try the unknown in 2019. Joy is gentle, kind, sincere, smart, prepared. One can see that she herself is a practitioner, lover, believer in Breathing and Meditation, one who doesn't stop evolving, one who shares soul-gripping bites of poetry and prose. I am grateful. ”

Joy’s willingness to dive deep into her own inner world in order to bring her best self to her students is admirable and inspiring. She has done the work inside; she walks the talk, and shows up authentically every single time. She is steady, wise and deeply intuitive in her approach and because of her natural willingness and enthusiasm for her work and practice, the meditation program she leads at Hastings Yoga has grown from one or two students periodically, to a loyal following of devoted practitioners. I am blessed to call her my teacher, colleague and friend. ”
— MaryAnn M, Owner of Hastings Yoga
Joy has been instrumental in getting me on the journey towards mindfulness and meditation. She continually balances my spiritual needs with her knowledge which makes me feel safe and supported at all times. Whether it be mudras or concepts for awareness, I always learn something new when taking a meditation class with Joy. I highly recommend her. . ”

I still remember the first time I meditated with Joy – a guided breathing meditation I was invited to attend with her staff at her workplace. I remember being struck by how perfect Joy’s voice was for a meditation guide – so calm, so soothing. Joy brings such presence to each meditation session, whether one on one or a group, always attuned to what’s happening in our lives and the world and guiding us in how to be with what’s happening. Joy puts so much thought into each session, including the wonderful poems and readings that are a lovely addition to the practice. She is a true joy (!) to have as a meditation teacher.
